The European Federation of Psychiatric Trainees (EFPT) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that represents the interests of psychiatric trainees across Europe. Comprising of member associations from over 35 countries, EFPT strives to promote the highest possible standards of psychiatric training and care.
Founded in 1992, EFPT acts as an interface between psychiatric trainees and key stakeholders, including national and international psychiatric organizations, policymakers, educators, and patients. Its primary goal is to foster unity, harmony, and collaborative knowledge sharing amongst psychiatric trainees across Europe.
Key initiatives of EFPT include advocacy for quality in training, research, and mental health services; support for the exchange of ideas and best practices; the promotion of psychiatry as a medical specialty; and the encouragement of trainee-led research and initiatives. These activities are conducted through a range of programs, including forums, exchange programs, research groups, and policy statements.
The EFPT is guided by its core principles of transparency, inclusivity, democracy, and respect for diversity. It firmly believes that by empowering psychiatric trainees today, we can shape the future of psychiatry and contribute to better mental health for all tomorrow.
